On Thursday, May 5th I was blessed to receive the Alva J. McClain Excellence in Teaching Award from Grace College and Theological Seminary. The Alva J. McClain Award for Excellence in Teaching is given every two years to the full-time teacher who exhibits not only excellent academic quality in the classroom but also is one who inspires and infuses students with a passion to learn and grow.
The Four for criteria for this award are as follows:
• Quality teaching in the classroom
• Pursuit of excellence in teaching and leadership
• Meaningful contribution to the academic climate
• Enhances teaching as a profession
I am grateful to my wonderful and beautiful wife who always supports and encourages me.
The fact that my parents were in town was the icing on the proverbial cake.
Our provost, Dr. Bill Katip presenting the award.
With our president, Dr. Ron Manahan.
Here’s what some of my students said:
o He knows that what he is teaching will benefit the students. He values the students’ relationship with God. That’s definitely key.
o He is committed to helping his students excel. . . . teaches in an engaging and interesting way, . . . prays for each of his students. He’s a wonderful professor!
o He loves God, cares for his students and it shows through his teaching. He is one of the best teachers I have had.
o His experience and knowledge brings every student closer to God. He is one of the people that inspire you until the rest of your life.
